Commonweal

Commonweal Retreat Center

Commonweal is a nonprofit center for service and research in health and human ecology located on a beautiful 60-acre site at the edge of the Pacific Ocean in the Point Reyes National Seashore. Our three guest houses are available, when not in use for Commonweal programs, to small groups and individuals for conferences, workshops, retreats, and similar uses which are compatible with Commonweal's nonprofit purpose.

Pacific House

Pacific House
Pacific House is a beautiful and historic twelve-bedroom structure that sits on the edge of a bluff overlooking the Pacific. Beautifully furnished, with a stone fireplace in the large living room and a fully equipped kitchen, it is electrically heated throughout. A non-refundable deposit is required at the time your reservation for Pacific House is made. Your reservation is not confirmed until your deposit is received. If we do not receive your deposit check within 10 working days, we will not be able to hold your reservation. We accept Visa, Mastercard, business or personal check.

Bothin and Kohler Houses

Bothin and Kohler houses are individual guest houses with two and three bedrooms respectively.

Bothin House
Bothin House (at right) is secluded in a grove of Monterey pine and cypress trees. It is a comfortable, fully-equipped, two-bedroom, one-bath residence. Each bedroom has two single beds. There is a living room, dining room and a large, fully equipped kitchen. It has electric heat, a woodburning stove and fireplace. It also has a washer and dryer.

Kohler House
Kohler House (at left) is 200 yards from Bothin House, near Pacific House, in an open setting with partial views of the ocean. It has one bathroom and three bedrooms, each with two single beds. It has a living room, dining room and small but fully equipped kitchen, electric heat and a woodburning stove. There is no washer and dryer.

Commonweal guest houses are also available for day-long retreats during the week.

Guests at Commonweal should prepare for dramatic changes of weather at almost any time of year. The winter may bring frequent rain, and this coastal site is often windy. We suggest warm, layered clothing and good walking shoes so you can enjoy the extraordinary resources of the Point Reyes National Seashore. This is a place for people who enjoy the isolation and accept the occasional inconveniences of a rural retreat center.

Two night minimum stay at all three houses.

For additional information and reservation schedules, please call Jenepher Stowell, Retreat Center Director, at 415-868-0970 (voice mail extension 786).
