California Budget Update:
Governor Signs Budget
August 4, 2003
On Saturday August 2, Governor Gray Davis signed the Budget approved earlier in the week by both houses of the Legislature. As finalized by the Governor, this budget protects important California youth crime and violence prevention programs including: $100 million (state general funds) for the Schiff-Cardenas Crime Prevention Act and $ 121.5 million in state general funds for after school programs (no change from Senate and Assembly approved levels). As previously reported, school safety grants, funded at a level of $ 82 million last year, are suspended by this budget for FY 03-04. We will provide more complete coverage of budget outcomes for other programs in follow-up reports.
