Group Sandtray
Sandtray is Jungian technique which has been
used by therapists to further the therapeutic process. At ISHI,
every CME and professional training workshop incorporates the
use of the Group Sandtray. This technique is central to the discovery
model format of the curricula. At Commonweal, we use individual
sandtrays in the Commonweal Cancer Help Program in a different
way to enable participants with cancer to explore the meaning
of this illness in their lives. The group sandtray was developed
by Marion Weber, the Director for Experiential Learning at ISHI
and the former Director of Art for the Commonweal Cancer Help
Program. It is a truly innovative tool which enables groups to
explore a shared meaning and purpose, learn right relationship
to each other and experience individual diversity as a source
of community strength.
Since Marion Weber developed this remarkable
approach to group process in 1992, she has trained people across
the country and at Commonweal in the use of this approach. It
has been equally powerful working with groups of doctors, mixed
groups of health professionals and service groups who work together.
