CME Workshops and Retreats for Physicians
Since 1991, ISHI has presented a continuous series of CME workshops that enable physicians to find deeper satisfaction and meaning in the day-to-day practice of medicine. ISHI is accredited by the California Medical Association to provide Category I continuing medical education credit to participating physicians.
These CME workshops and retreats enable us, as physicians to expand our ideas about what it means to be a physician and to begin healing the wounds of our medical training and experience within today's challenging and constantly changing health care environment. The curriculum provides an opportunity for honest and genuine dialogue among peer physicians; our experiences are unique and may not be understood by those who have not had medical training or felt the weight of its expectations. Engaging in supportive dialogue with colleagues has the potential to strengthen us in the work of the physician and to rekindle the deep commitment to service that has drawn us to medicine.
We offer the following retreats and workshops for physicians in 2007:
- July 11-15, 2007
A CME workshop for Healer's Art course directors and faculty. ISHI's faculty development workshop is designed to enable medical school faculty to plan and implement The Healer's Art, ISHI's innovative medical school curriculum that is now being offered at 53 medical schools nationwide. The Healer's Art brings together two mutually supportive learning communities, medical students, and practicing and teaching physicians, in a discovery model that encourages honest and mutually respectful sharing of experience, beliefs, aspirations and personal truths.
In this faculty development workshop, the participants will learn the "nuts and bolts, how to..." of the course, gain confidence with innovative techniques of professional education and explore, in depth, the Discovery Model educational strategy that is the basis of the course
- May 11-12, 2007
ISHI's Finding Meaning in Medicine groups help physicians to come together in a community of values and find a greater vitality and joy in the practice of medicine. This workshop enables a deeper appreciation of the shared experience of being a physician and includes instruction in the formation of an FMM group at your workplace.
- June 7 - 9, 2007
As a health professional you may feel that you donšt have the time to tell your own stories or listen to the stories of others; especially your colleagues. In this workshop you will explore how the power of story can deepen your life and enrich your work. Come prepared to laugh, to cry, and to celebrate the joy of being human.
- September 14 - 15, 2007
Despite the cognitive emphasis of professional training, clinical intuition plays a decisive role in the excellence of patient care. We are all more intuitive than we realize. Come and explore the range and power of your intuition and learn ways to integrate it more deliberately into your clinical work.
- October 5 - 6, 2007
