Programs & Workshops - Overview
In 2009, ISHI is pursuing the following program initiatives and activities:
Continuing Education Programs for Health Professionals
When you bring your whole heart into your work, you tap into a lineage of healing that dates back to the time of Hippocrates and invite mysteries and graces that often cannot be explained. The small room with the patient waiting on the examining table is its own kind of universe—a place where fears and hopes intersect with the precision of medical science. This can be a place of contraction or expansion; a place of aloneness or connection, a place of routine or discovery. What really matters is having the courage to be fully present to what is happening in that moment. In our 2008 workshops and trainings we invite you to join us on a journey of rediscovery into the heart of your work and its personal meaning for you. Through various experiential processes, such as small group discussion, poetry, storytelling, journal writing, symbols and imagery—each of our workshops creates a solid structure of support for you to explore the joys and challenges of a life of service.

The Healer's Art
Since 1992, The Healer's Art, ISHI's elective medical school course, has been offered annually to the students at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. The course gives the medical students an opportunity to explore the human dimension of medicine and is now being replicated at 58 medical schools nationwide.

The Finding Meaning in Medicine Program
ISHI's outreach program for physicians, medical students and other health care professionals is a way to create supportive collegial communities and to explore the deeper meaning of our work. Many new FMM groups are starting every month in all parts of the US and Canada and in a number of other countries. We provide materials, resources and support to physicians, medical students, nurses and others who are interested in starting groups. Our online FMM program and discussions are growing, too.
