Can a Doctor Live From the Heart?

The Institute for the Study of Health and Illness (ISHI) at Commonweal is an education and training center for physicians who wish to renew their commitment to service and to live by the values that have motivated physicians through the ages. Since 1991, ISHI has offered a series of innovative Category 1 CME retreat workshops that enable physicians to find deeper satisfaction and meaning in the day-to-day practice of medicine. ISHI workshops are held at Commonweal in Bolinas, California. One hour north of San Francisco, the Commonweal retreat site encompasses about 60 acres of National Park land at the edge of the Pacific Ocean. It is one of the most beautiful, undeveloped coastal areas in Northern California.

Practicing medicine in today's challenging health care environment is becoming ever more difficult. We hope that our onsite and outreach programs will intrigue and offer you a way to rekindle and sustain the deep commitment that has drawn you to medicine.

"The true voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new lands
but in having new eyes."
